THAW (or Toast Heard Around the World) historically has happened when the northeast U.S., at least, is very much still frozen — in mid-January. This year, for the first time, it was held in early March: March 5 to be exact.
“As we evaluated our programming, alumni and hosts provided thoughtful feedback regarding THAW,” says Executive Director of Alumni Affairs Brad Ludwig. “As we planned the 13th celebration of THAW, we looked to minimize common winter weather disruptions that often affect our northeast locations, help mitigate the impact of seasonal illnesses, and create a more balanced program schedule throughout the year.”
For the first THAW held on the cusp of spring, there were 41 events with more than 750 attendees (including, above, a gathering of Muhlenberg Theatre Association alumni in New York City). See photos from some more of the celebrations below.

A large group of Lehigh Valley alumni gathered at Yergey Brewing in Emmaus, which is owned by Jim Yergey ’77.
The sale, which has been going on since at least 1996, gives unwanted books new life and provides a valuable service to the campus and local communities. This year’s sale takes place May 1.
A pair of Muhlenberg coaches introduced Raymond “Randy” Salani III ’07 to the Appalachian Trail. Now, he’s published two photography books about the iconic route, with two more in the pipeline about Wyoming’s Teton Range.
